Over the past 10 years we have continued to add-to and tweak our classroom session to create an unparalleled learning environment,  designed to teach you how to use your own gear to capture beautiful landscape photographs and timelapses of the night sky using the latest software available.

Take Your Timelapses to Another Level

Intimate Workshop

New Moon = Darkest Skies

Join time lapse specialist and educator, Ron Risman, for 5-nights under the dark skies of Moab, Utah.  Thanks to the high desert climate, Moab is one of the best locations to learn night-sky photography & time lapse due to its reliable dry and stable weather.

This workshop combines 5-days of classroom instruction with nightly on-location shoots to ensure you walk away with your own portfolio of fantastic images and timelapses.

Our small group sizes provide an intimate learning environment with hands-on classroom sessions and on location scouting, shooting & instruction. You will come away with extensive knowledge on how to compose, capture, and process night-sky photographs and time lapse films

This workshop is scheduled around the dates of the new moon to ensure that we have the darkest skies.   Our workshops are kept small and intimate in order to maximize learning in class, and to allow us to provide personal instruction in the field.  This class is ideal for beginners through intermediate skill level.

Workshop Summary

A Remarkable Night Sky Experience

Moab is not only home to Arches & Canyonlands National Park, it is also home to the stunning Dead Horse Point State Park, and almost 2 million acres of breathtaking canyons, fins, and plateau's carved by the Colorado and Green Rivers.   Also nearby is Goblin Valley State Park, with landscapes that are truly out of this world.

Moab features breathtaking red-rock landscapes against the snow capped peaks of the La Sal Mountain range.   It is also home to some of the darkest skies in the world, and with the high desert climate (dry weather) the conditions for night-sky capture couldn't be better.

This film was created using footage captured during the workshop by our workshop participants.

DAILY SCHEDULE

Our workshop begins on May 20th at 10:00 a.m. with a meet & greet, followed by our first classroom session.  We'll break for lunch and an early dinner before heading out for our nightly shoot.

We'll carpool in no more than 4 vehicles to our evening's shoot location and will arrive well before sunset so that we'll have plenty of time for in-field instruction, scouting, and to capture sunset - before setting up to the night skies ahead. Our night shoots this time of year typically end around 1 a.m. depending on location.

HOTEL

The hotel for the workshop is located in downtown Moab and we have reserved a block of rooms at a discounted rate to ensure that everyone that needs a room has a room.    Moab hotels are often difficult to come by at this time of year.

Once registered, you'll receive a welcome letter with information about the hotel and how to reserving your room.

AUTHORIZED & PERMITTED

Timelapse Workshops is a permitted workshop by the National and State Parks where we conduct business. We carry permits and proper first aid certifications and insurance coverage for each workshop.

From Ron Risman

Our workshops are a place where you'll learn to capture and create breathtaking night sky photographs and time lapse films, while connecting with nature and with other photographers who share the same passion for astrophotography and time lapse.

As a photographer and educator it is a honor to be able to put together a remarkable night-sky experience for photographers from all over the world, and to see them take what they've learned and continue capturing the night sky long after the workshop has ended.. Many of these photographers come back again and again in order to rekindle that connection with our night skies, and that in itself is success for me.

AIRPORT

Moab, Utah is located just 90 minutes from Grand Junction, CO or 4 hours from Salt Lake City.  You will find many more flight options and discounted rates when flying into Salt Lake.
